This contemporary bathroom is full of eye-catching features, including chic mosaics, automatic lighting, and a high-tech digital shower.

Automatic recessed lighting

Decorative recesses were created to display ornaments and toiletries, which illuminate in response to motion, due to the PIR sensor positioned in the ceiling. It would also be possible to wire them through a switch, in addition to the main bathroom lighting.

Underfloor heating

Electric underfloor heating was installed on the main floor and in the shower area, to help dry out any residual moisture. This helps to maintain the bathroom, as it prevents mould from forming on areas such as the silicone joints.

Silent extractor fan

An in-line extractor fan with a motor was installed in the laundry room, to limit noise-levels and provide additional removal of damp air.

Digital shower with multi-user feature

The slimline digital shower offers complete and accurate temperature control and can easily be adjusted for different users. Its valves, mechanisms and filters are all accessible in the adjoining cupboard, as are the transformers for the illuminated niches. The shower uses a two-way valve, so water can come from the showerhead on the shower rail, the rain-style head mounted above, or both.

Off-the-floor sanitary ware

An off-the-floor toilet pan was installed, with a soft-close seat. The pan is rimless, for better sanitation and water dispersal. A granite worktop was templated and fitted to the shelf behind the toilet, and the cistern can be accessed through this, to enable removal of the flush plate or the pan if needed. We always recommend using a decent cistern that provides the maximum volume of water upon flushing, which this bathroom provides.

Two-way bath filler control

A two-way bath filler control is positioned central to the wall, with no taps, so the customer can comfortably sit at either end of the bath. Bathwater can also be released via a handheld shower wand, which is useful for cleaning.

Additional storage

The illuminated mirror cabinet provides storage for toiletries and has one shaver socket built into its underside, as well as one within. Touch control for the mirror’s light can be found underneath the cabinet, for additional lighting if required.

Final finishing touches

The dual-element towel rail allows towels to be dried on a timer during the summer months when the main heating is not running. In terms of tiling, we used a 600 x 300 glazed ceramic on the walls, complemented by a selection of glass and stone mosaics. A 400 x 400 porcelain tile was used on the floor. This bathroom involved re-routing the drainage system so that the step into the shower could be lowered. The bidet was also removed, allowing for the sink to be relocated. We also found areas of damp in the walls, which were consequently removed, injected, re-rendered and guaranteed. This was all provided under one price and service, without the need to chase multiple trades and arrange the timings of their visits.
